Fall Seeding!

| Fall Seeding and Planting It’s hard to imagine in the heat of August that we are already planning for the fall, but such is the way with farming. This last week we seeded all of our fall crops! From potatoes, radishes, turnips, kale, swiss chard, and more we are excited to watch these cold weather crops grow. Most of our root vegetables have been direct-seeded into prepared beds outdoors. Leafy greens are seeded in pots in our greenhouse where they can be kept out of the direct sun and watered more regularly to help them make it through the heat of late summer. Thanks to the plentiful rain this week and warm temps, many of these crops have alreaedy popped up for a promising fall season! As you’ve noticed, we do not have a lot of greens available online or at market. This is a typical occurrence during the summer when heat and pests keep water leafy greens from thriving. Such is the way with shopping local! It challenges us to eat what is in season where we live. Hopefully in a month or two, these seeds will be fully matured plants and we can, once again, offer your favorite greens. |
