| Cateto Sulino Harvest is Complete! Last week before Hurricane Ian hit, Michael made quick work of harvesting the last rows of his Cateto Sulino corn! Cateto Sulino is a flint corn, a variety of maize similar to common corn. Flint corn is called such due to its hard exterior. Flint varieties are generally used for milling. Cateto Sulino is derived from South America and is used for corn meal and polenta. After he harvested the corn, Michael and the rest of the crew went to work shucking the hundreds of cobs. They were put into bags and hung from the rafters of one of the high tunnels. By hanging them, we can keep them safe from critters as well as decrease drying time! Once dry, Michael will take most of the corn to Woodson’s Mill in Nelson County where they will grind the kernels using a water-powered stone mill! The rest of the corn will be sent to an organic seed distributor so that the heirloom variety can continue to be produced throughout our region. |

| Vegetable Share Contents: Potatoes (from Thornfield Farm in FIncastle) Dill Carrots Head Lettuce Kale Arugula Peppers Jalapenos Bread Share: Pizza Crust 4-PackPar-baked crusts for you to finish off at home. Cover with sauce and toppings and bake for 10-15 minutes at high heat, preferably on a pizza stone. Broil for the last minute or so if you like a charred crust and toppings. Crusts can also be used to make pita chips.Ingredients: Wheat flour, water, whole rye flour, sourdough starter, salt, malted barley. |
| New Boonsboro Location CSA & Order Pickup As you may have noticed the Bank of the James has finally opened in our Boonsboro pickup location. Thank you Bank of the James for letting us use this space for the past 2 years! Our new Boonsboro location is at Blickenstaff & Company Realtors building in the Boonsboro Shopping Center. 4923 Boonsboro Rd, Lynchburg, VA 24503  This is also where you will find the new Farm Truck by Restoration Acres Farm! The Farm Truck is a mobile, drive-up farm store offering pasture raised meats, eggs, and a few Great Day Gardens products for sale on site. Stop by between 3-6 on Wednesdays and support our friends by purchasing incredible pasture-raised eggs, meat and more! No need to preorder, and CSA pickup will still be only 4:30-5:30. |
